Byram Firefighters Remembered 9/11

Byram Township, N.J. — September 11 — Members of the Byram Township Fire Department came together to honor the firefighters, police officers, EMS workers, and civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The department participated in the nation-wide observance of the anniversary, paying tribute to those who responded to the attacks that day. The events resulted in the loss of 343 FDNY firefighters and paramedics, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and thousands of civilians.

For fire service personnel, the annual remembrance offered a chance to honor the responders who went to work that morning and never came back.

It also acknowledged the emergency workers who carried out rescue, recovery, and support efforts in the days and weeks that followed.

The Byram Township Fire Department has served the community as a volunteer organization since 1948.

It has provided a range of services including fire suppression, heavy rescue, ice and water rescue, wilderness rescue, and public education. The department operated from three stations throughout the township.

At its Cranberry Lake station on Route 206, members continued the tradition of honoring those who served on September 11 and those who were lost.
