Montague Volunteer Fire Department Observed 9/11 Anniversary

Montague, N.J. — September 11 — The Montague Volunteer Fire Department commemorated the anniversary of September 11, 2001, by honoring the civilians and emergency responders who lost their lives during the attacks 25 years prior.

The September 11 attacks caused nearly 3,000 fatalities and triggered one of the most significant emergency responses in New York City's history.

Approximately 1,000 firefighters and around 2,000 police officers were involved in responding to the World Trade Center.The Fire Department of New York lost 343 personnel, and 37 members of the Port Authority Police Department also perished.

For fire and emergency medical services personnel, the anniversary serves as a time to reflect on the duties and challenges faced by emergency workers during major incidents.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum also highlights the lasting impact on responders and recovery workers who were exposed to dust, debris, and other hazardous conditions during the response and cleanup efforts.

On September 11, the department’s observance underscored the ongoing relationship between the local volunteer fire service and the enduring lessons learned from the events of 2001.
