Vernon and Highland Lakes Firefighters Completed Live Burn Training

Vernon, N.J. — September 14 — Vernon Township Fire Department Company #1 took part in a live burn training exercise with the Highland Lakes Fire Department on September 14. This training gave firefighters the chance to gain hands-on experience in a controlled fire environment, while also allowing both departments to practice working together effectively.

During the exercise, firefighters carried out live fire operations aimed at improving their skills in handling fires, coordinating efforts and making decisions under pressure.

Conducting these activities in a controlled setting let the firefighters use protective gear and follow proper fireground procedures while operating as a team.

Vernon Emergency Services provided backup support during the training.

The Sussex County Fire Academy offered the training location, facilities and instructors for the session.

The Sussex County Public Safety Training Academy featured various live-fire training props, such as Class A burn buildings, a passenger vehicle replica, a flashover container, and live-fire roof structures.

The facility also had areas for search and rescue operations, hose deployment and fireground command drills.

Vernon Township’s fire service training program includes in-service, specialized, officer, driver and advanced training, with instruction delivered either within the department or at approved external training facilities.

The September 14 training session allowed firefighters from Vernon and Highland Lakes to work together and strengthen the coordination necessary for incidents involving multiple fire companies.
