Berkeley Heights Firefighters Observed Labor Day With Safety Reminder

Berkeley Heights, N.J. — September 7 — The Berkeley Heights Fire Department honored Labor Day by acknowledging the efforts of emergency service workers and other essential personnel, while also urging residents to stay alert about fire safety during the holiday weekend.

Based at 411 Hamilton Avenue, the department serves the township as a volunteer fire department, providing emergency response throughout the year. Department officials noted that volunteers are available around the clock, every day of the year.

As families came together to prepare meals outdoors, firefighters urged residents to use grills responsibly.

The U.S.Fire Administration suggested keeping grills outdoors and at least three feet away from siding, deck railings, eaves, and other flammable materials. They also recommended keeping children and pets away from hot grills and never leaving a lit grill unattended.

Residents were also advised to exercise caution around outdoor fires and to ensure that any fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area. The department emphasized checking smoke alarms and having a clear escape plan in place for the family.

Labor Day offered a chance to appreciate the work of essential personnel while reinforcing the importance of basic fire prevention during holiday gatherings.
