Fanwood Fire Department Remembered Those Lost on 9/11

Fanwood, N.J. — September 11 — The Fanwood Fire Department commemorated the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, by paying tribute to the people who lost their lives and the families affected by the attacks.

This anniversary continued to hold significant meaning for the fire service, as departments nationwide remembered the firefighters, emergency medical workers, law enforcement officers, and civilians who were tragically killed on that day.

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum stated that 2,977 individuals were killed in the September 11 attacks, including 343 firefighters from the Fire Department of New York.

The 2026 anniversary also honored first responders and recovery workers who later passed away due to illnesses linked to their work following the attacks.

The 9/11 Memorial introduced a seventh moment of silence during its 25th anniversary ceremony to honor those who died as a result of health issues related to the attacks.

Fanwood's Fire Department continued to be part of the borough's emergency services alongside the Police Department and Rescue Squad.

The borough had long recognized local firefighters for their years of volunteer service, including those with 25, 30, 40, and 45 years of service.

At its station located at 75 North Martine Avenue, the department's 9/11 remembrance served as a tribute to those who were lost and as a reminder of the ongoing duty and responsibility of the emergency services community.
