Westfield Fire Department Remembered 9/11 25 Years Later

Westfield, N.J. — September 11 — The Town of Westfield, New Jersey Fire Department commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks by honoring the lives lost and the first responders who worked during the attacks and the subsequent recovery efforts.

The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people, including 343 firefighters from the Fire Department of New York.

Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services personnel, and other responders were involved at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the crash site of Flight 93.

Westfield also honored 12 of its own residents who were killed on September 11.

The town held its annual remembrance ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial located at North Avenue and East Broad Street.The 2026 ceremony featured prayers, an honor guard, a ceremonial wreath, the playing of “Taps,” and the reading of the names of the 12 Westfield residents.

The Westfield 9/11 Memorial has a direct link to the town's public safety community.

The memorial was officially dedicated in 2002, and members of the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad, Police Department, and Fire Department participated in the honor guard before its dedication.

For emergency service personnel, the anniversary served as a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who responded, the families who lost loved ones, and the Westfield residents whose names are still part of the community's history.
