Westfield Fire Department Recognized Workers on Labor Day

Westfield, N.J. — September 7 — The Town of Westfield Fire Department celebrated Labor Day by acknowledging the dedication of workers who continued to serve their communities, businesses, and families while many residents took the day off.

Although municipal offices were closed on September 7 for Labor Day, the fire department remained fully operational around the clock to handle emergencies.

Tour 3 stayed on duty and was ready to respond to any calls throughout the holiday.The department operates four duty shifts, with firefighters working 24-hour shifts followed by 72 hours of rest.

The Westfield Fire Department, based at 405 North Avenue West, ensured staffing for emergency response at both its main station and its second location at 1029 Central Avenue.

Both stations remained fully staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

With a long-standing tradition of public service in Westfield, dating back to its founding in 1875, the department has always provided fire and emergency assistance throughout the year, including during holidays when many businesses and residences are closed.

The department also noted that all sworn members are New Jersey-certified EMTs and support the Westfield Rescue Squad during emergency situations.

Labor Day highlighted the importance of workers who keep essential services running.

For Westfield firefighters, the holiday brought another regular shift focused on maintaining emergency coverage and supporting the community.
