Essex County Firefighters Completed VEIS Training in Ipswich

Ipswich, MA — September 9 — The Ipswich Fire Department organized a regional firefighter training event on September 9 at the former firehouse located in Lords Square. The exercise involved firefighters and instructors from over a dozen departments across Essex County, focusing on the Vent-Enter-Isolate-Search technique, commonly referred to as VEIS.

This training was arranged by the Essex County Fire Chiefs Association Training Division, which plays a key role in providing consistent fire service education and hands-on training for career, call and volunteer fire departments in the county.

During the session, firefighters conducted practical search and ventilation drills inside the empty building.

The location offered the crews a chance to work in a structure that was set for demolition, helping them practice coordination, entry and search methods. A similar training session held at another Ipswich property recently included zero-visibility searches, forcible entry and ground-ladder operations.

Ipswich firefighter Warren Grant was involved in organizing the training. Grant is listed as a member of the Ipswich Fire Department by the town.

The department also thanked property owner Roy Serpa for allowing access to the building for the training. Rehab 5 provided support to the firefighters during the session.

The training allowed firefighters from across Essex County to collaborate, practice VEIS procedures and reinforce skills relevant to residential structure fires and other emergency incidents. Regular regional training efforts help support the county's overall strategy for coordinated fire service operations.
