Bridgeport Fire Department Recognized Workers on Labor Day

Bridgeport, CT — September 7 — The Bridgeport Fire Department celebrated Labor Day by honoring the workers who play a vital role in supporting the city through emergency response, public services, education, construction, healthcare, and other essential jobs.

The department's Labor Day message highlighted the commitment and everyday efforts of individuals who help keep Bridgeport running and support its residents in various capacities.

Firefighters and other emergency service personnel continued their duties throughout the holiday, offering fire, rescue, and emergency response services while much of the community took the day off.

Labor Day is observed every year on the first Monday of September as a national holiday that acknowledges the social and economic contributions of American workers.

The U.S.Department of Labor noted that the holiday became a federal observance in 1894 following years of advocacy by labor organizations and individual states.

The City of Bridgeport's 2026 holiday calendar listed Monday, September 7, as Labor Day.
