Botsford Fire Rescue Completed Water Supply Drill

Newtown, CT — September 1 — Botsford Fire Rescue carried out an interagency training exercise centered on water supply operations, during which Tanker 559 took part alongside multiple fire departments from the Newtown area.

The drill involved firefighters from Botsford Fire Rescue, Newtown Hook & Ladder, Hawleyville Fire Department, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and Dodgingtown Fire Department.

The training allowed the crews to collaborate on various aspects of water supply operations, including positioning equipment, making hose connections, and coordinating between different departments.

Water supply operations are essential during fire emergencies, especially when there is no dependable municipal water source or nearby hydrant available.

Newtown’s fire protection system covers the town’s various districts through five volunteer fire departments. Local records also highlight the importance of having accessible fire suppression water sources in areas that lack proper public water systems.

Newtown’s Emergency Management Office is responsible for planning, training, and coordination, which helps foster cooperation between town departments and first responders.

The training allowed firefighters to practice standard procedures and enhance their coordination prior to any actual emergency.

The participating departments continue to engage in joint training activities to support fire and rescue efforts throughout Newtown.
