Castleton Firefighters Put Hose Deployment Tactics to the Test

Castleton, Vt. — September 23, 2026 — On Wednesday night, firefighters used their training session in Castleton to practice hose deployment, movement within a fire scene, and improving operational efficiency through a hands-on drill.
The training centered on comparing the Minuteman load and the Triple Lay hose-loading methods, with firefighters practicing hose deployment from Engine 3 and Tower 1. Crews conducted multiple drills under both daylight and nighttime conditions, enabling team members to evaluate how each system performed during deployment.
The drill was carried out under the supervision of Chief Heath Goyette and Lieutenant Joey Smith. Firefighters rehearsed roll-up procedures, hose arrangements, and timing in order to enhance consistency and coordination during firefighting operations.
