Warren Firefighters Completed Water Rescue Awareness Training

Warren, VT — September 9 — The Warren Volunteer Fire Department conducted awareness-level training on water rescue techniques as part of its efforts to improve knowledge and readiness for emergency water rescue situations and mutual-aid operations.
The session was led by Mike Cannon from Vermont’s Urban Search and Rescue Task Force.
The training covered topics such as water rescue hazards, responder safety, and basic techniques that can help firefighters identify conditions and make safe decisions during water-related emergencies.
According to guidance from the Vermont Fire Academy, Water Rescue Safety and Awareness is an introductory course for firefighters and emergency medical services personnel.
The training aims to help participants recognize water hazards, identify local rescue resources, understand basic shore-based rescue techniques, and become familiar with water rescue equipment.
Vermont Task Force One also maintains specialized capabilities for technical rescue operations, including swiftwater and flood response.
State information noted that the task force is capable of deploying boats and rescue swimmers to support communities during incidents involving moving water.
The training session on September 9 provided Warren firefighters with additional awareness that can support safer and more coordinated responses when assisting mutual-aid partners during water rescue incidents.
