Arcade Firefighters Drill on Core Engine Company Operations and Rapid Hose Advancemen

Arcade, NY - Firefighters from the Arcade Fire Department dedicated Wednesday evening to practical engine company evolutions, running progressive hose-line drills to reinforce fundamental suppression skills and operational confidence among newer members in western New York.

On September 16, department personnel assembled for evening training centered around the mechanics of basic engine company operations. The evolutions were structured progressively, beginning with foundational hose handling and advancing through more complex scenarios with each rotation to build tactical proficiency.

The primary objective was mastering efficient, coordinated hose advancement to ensure attack lines can be deployed, stretched, and advanced to the seat of a fire in the fastest possible timeframe. Seasoned interior firefighters worked side-by-side with newer interior-certified members, a firefighter-in-training, and a recruit member, offering real-time guidance on nozzle technique, line management, and pinch-point navigation.

Department officers stressed that repeated muscle-memory drills ensure smooth communication and aggressive, effective initial attacks when crews face real-world structure fires in the district.
