Interagency Rescue Readiness: 3rd Battalion Crews Tackle Complex Vehicle Scenarios

Bushnell's Basin, NY - Firefighters and rescue specialists from across the Monroe County 3rd Battalion converged on Saturday to participate in a large-scale, hands-on vehicle extrication drill featuring advanced rescue techniques and realistic collision scenarios.

On September 19, personnel from the Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department joined fellow firefighters from throughout the 3rd Battalion for the comprehensive training day. The program immersed responding crews in four distinct vehicle rescue scenarios designed to replicate complex, high-acuity roadway entrapments, requiring participants to demonstrate proficiency with hydraulic spreaders, cutters, stabilization struts, and patient-packaging procedures.

Sponsored by MESFire, the interagency evolution brought in experienced technical rescue instructors from around the region to guide crews through evolving entrapment challenges, contemporary vehicle anatomy considerations, and synchronized command tactics.

Fire department leadership noted that the heavily attended event served as an invaluable platform for mutual aid partners to align operational techniques, foster cross-departmental communication, and ensure that personnel across the battalion are fully synchronized when deploying heavy hydraulic rescue tools at real-world motor vehicle collisions.
