South Royalton and Tunbridge Firefighters Compete at World’s Fair

Tunbridge, Vt. — September 20 — At the Tunbridge World’s Fair, firefighters from South Royalton and Tunbridge swapped their turnout gear for a mechanical bull in a lighthearted contest, offering members of the neighboring departments a chance to compete outside the emergency response setting.
The event took place at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds during the 2026 Tunbridge World’s Fair, which was held from September 17 to September 20. The annual fair, which began in 1867, includes agricultural exhibits, livestock shows, entertainment, and various community events.
Firefighters from the South Royalton Volunteer Fire Department competed against their counterparts from the Tunbridge Volunteer Fire Department in a bull-riding contest. According to South Royalton's September 21 post, the crews still participated despite the rainy weather.
After the competition, Tunbridge Fire came away with the win, earning bragging rights until the next matchup.
The event also served as a community fundraiser. According to the department's account, proceeds from the competition went toward supporting the infrastructure of the Tunbridge World’s Fair.
