Warren Firefighters Completed Advanced Extrication Training

Warren, RI — September 17 — Members of the Warren Fire Department participated in advanced vehicle extrication training on September 17.The exercise involved a complex scenario where a passenger vehicle was stuck underneath a utility trailer.In this simulation, the patient had both legs pinned beneath the dashboard.Firefighters began by securing the trailer and safely extracting the vehicle before working to access the trapped individual.

During the training, the team used the department’s newly acquired Holmatro V-Struts for vehicle and load stabilization, along with a Griphoist and other specialized rescue tools.

Holmatro explained that its V-Strut system is designed to offer fast and reliable stabilization during rescue missions.

The firefighters successfully stabilized the vehicles, removed the passenger car, accessed the simulated patient, and completed the rescue.

They also reviewed techniques for patient removal and trauma care as part of the exercise.

The Warren Fire Department regularly provides vehicle extrication training as part of its emergency response training program.

Vehicle extrication is listed as one of the advanced training options available to department members.

The department runs a rescue squad and multiple fire companies and responds to vehicle collisions, medical emergencies, fires, and other incidents in Warren.

This training enabled the team to practice coordinated extrication and patient care procedures while becoming familiar with the new equipment they have recently acquired.
