FF/EMT Argillander Completed Pumper Operator Qualification

Newport, RI — September 12 — FF/EMT Argillander successfully completed the Naval Station Newport Fire Department’s pumper operator qualification process, fulfilling the department’s necessary steps to be eligible for additional apparatus responsibilities.

Once they obtained the traditional pumper operator certification, members were required to go through a department qualification process that tested their knowledge of the apparatus and the equipment assigned to it.

This process served as an extra level of evaluation to ensure the operator understood and could use the equipment effectively.

The qualification process included a final 1410 drill and a walkthrough with the Operations Chief.

These steps enabled department leadership to assess the member’s knowledge and verify that all qualification requirements had been met.

After successfully completing the process, Argillander became eligible to take part in operations when a shift engineer was not available. The qualification increased the department’s staffing capabilities by adding another trained operator and helped maintain operational coverage when a higher-ranking apparatus operator was not present.

Naval Station Newport is a major Navy installation that supports military and federal operations throughout the region.

The Fire and Emergency Services function at the installation includes fire protection, hazardous materials response, emergency medical response, and fire prevention efforts.
