Brookfield, Conn. — September 16, 2026 — During part of the week, firefighters trained on how to respond initially to a building fire, focusing on the physical tasks needed to gain entry into a structure.
During the training, firefighters used a tire in place of a door to practice forcible-entry techniques. Members repeatedly hit the tire with a sledgehammer, offering a hands-on demonstration of the physical exertion needed to break down a door in an emergency.
The exercise was created to help firefighters grasp the challenges of forcible entry as they work through tasks likely to arise during the initial phase of responding to a structure fire.
