Auburn Firefighters Honor 9/11 Fallen With Annual Stair Climb

Both on-duty and off-duty firefighters participated in an annual stair climb in Auburn on Friday to honor the firefighters who lost their lives while responding to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. 

The event took place on the 25th anniversary of the attacks and provided Auburn firefighters with a chance to pay tribute to the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives while serving on September 11, 2001. 

The participants used the climb as a physical homage to the firefighters who scaled the World Trade Center towers during the attacks. Memorial stair climbs across the country typically feature 110 flights of stairs, symbolizing the Twin Towers, and let participants relive the ascent made by firefighters that day. The Auburn event included both on-duty and off-duty members. The department said the annual climb is a way to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to carry their example of service into the work of today's firefighters.
