Jamestown Crews Conducted Cliffside Rescue

Jamestown, RI — September 10 — At approximately 5:20 p.m., Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department personnel arrived at the location of 435 Beavertail Road after being called to assist with a report of a man who had fallen and may have been trapped on rocks beneath a steep cliff.

As crews arrived, additional support was requested, including Marine 1, Drone 1, and UTV 1.

The first responders began a search along the shoreline and eventually found the individual at the base of the cliff.A department drone was utilized to help locate and evaluate the patient’s exact position.

A rescue swimmer was sent and made initial contact with the patient.

The patient was then secured and transported to Marine 1 with the help of the rescue swimmer.Marine 1 provided medical stabilization before transporting the patient directly to Newport, where he received further treatment and was later taken to a local hospital.

The patient suffered from minor injuries, and no other injuries were reported.

The incident took place near Beavertail, a region known for its rocky shoreline, scenic viewpoints, hiking trails, and saltwater fishing.

Rhode Island State Parks has issued prior warnings about the risks associated with rocky coastal areas, especially during adverse weather conditions.

The response involved the coordinated use of shore-based firefighters, marine units, a drone, a UTV, and a rescue swimmer during a technical shoreline rescue operation.
