Windham Public-Safety Students Honor 9/11 Anniversary

On September 11, 2026, two junior firefighters in Windham, Connecticut, wore red to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, giving Red Friday additional significance.
On the 25th anniversary of the attacks, Windham Center Fire Department junior members Natalie Long and Kaylee Oslund, who are also students in the Criminal Justice and Protective Services program at Windham Technical High School, took part in the department's monthly Red Friday custom.
The two students were not yet born when the attacks took place, according to the Windham Center Fire Department. Instead, the department claimed to have learnt about the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services professionals, military people, and civilians impacted by September 11 and the subsequent events. The two students are now beginning their own education in public safety. Windham Tech's Criminal Justice and Protective Services program provides students with training in safety and security, leadership and emergency services. The program also allows eligible juniors to test for state emergency medical licensure.
