Waterbury Firefighters Honored Milan Grant on Second Anniversary

Waterbury, CT — August 18 —The Waterbury Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1339, honored Lieutenant Inspector Milan E.Grant III as the department observed the second anniversary of his death.

Grant passed away on August 18, 2024, at the age of 52.

He had been a member of the Waterbury Fire Department since 1999 and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2014.In 2021, he became a lieutenant inspector and later worked in the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Throughout his career, Grant served in various stations across Waterbury.

Outside of his firefighting duties, he was involved in swimming and coaching. He contributed to the Connecticut Special Olympics and the Watertown Swim Team, and also coached his twin sons in their swimming journeys.

Colleagues in the Waterbury Fire Fighters Association continued to honor Grant as a fellow firefighter and a valued member of the Waterbury community.

His service was acknowledged through a 2025 community scholarship initiative that honored several fallen Connecticut public safety personnel, including Grant.

The anniversary offered a chance for department members, friends, and family to recall Grant’s career and the connections he made during his time in service.

His legacy remained alive within the Waterbury fire service community, where fellow firefighters continued to celebrate his memory and contributions.
