Hands-On Fire Safety and First Aid: Dryden Concludes Successful Summer Program for Young Recruits

DRYDEN, NY — Young community members received hands-on experience in fire suppression, emergency medical services and lifesaving skills as the Dryden Fire Department concluded the first session of its Junior Fire Academy.

On August 22, Neptune Hose Co. 1 of Dryden and Dryden Ambulance provided local youths ages 8 to 11 with an introduction to the work of firefighters and EMS personnel.

Participants practiced handling fire hoses, navigating simulated smoke conditions and using portable fire extinguishers while also learning emergency scene safety. EMS instruction included calling 911, basic first aid and CPR, along with a look at patient care and equipment inside an ambulance.

The academy also included bucket brigade competitions and water activities, combining practical instruction with team-building exercises.
