Chautauqua Firefighters Conduct Rural Ladder Training

Members of the Chautauqua Fire Department conducted a ladder training exercise on September 1, using a rural property to practice operations on an agricultural building.Firefighters worked with aerial and ground ladders, practicing roof ladder placement, ladder throws and aerial apparatus positioning on and around a large barn.The Chautauqua, New York, training also focused on apparatus placement, communications, structural hazards and coordination of ventilation and egress operations.The exercise provided members with hands-on training under conditions representative of the rural properties and structures found throughout the department's response area.
