There are several seats available in the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department's 2026 NREMT-EMT class for those who are interested in become Emergency Medical Technicians.

The Jamestown Fire Department, located at 50 Narragansett Ave. in Jamestown, Rhode Island, will host the course from September 14 to December 16, 2026. The EMT curriculum offered by the department is intended to get students ready for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification test. After passing the test, students can apply for an EMT licensure in Rhode Island.

In addition to one or two Saturday sessions, classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays, typically starting at 6:30 p.m. and lasting three to four hours. According to the department, there might be some timetable modifications. The tuition is $1,250, which includes the textbook, workbook and BLS-CPR certification. The program requires a $250 deposit at registration, with the remaining balance due on the first day of class.

Chief Howie Tighe is listed as the lead instructor and coordinator. Other instructors include Rhode Island-licensed instructor/coordinators and experienced EMS providers from the Jamestown Fire Department.

The department's EMS division operates two advanced life support rescue vehicles and a non-transporting ALS vehicle. It also maintains a duty crew to respond to EMS emergencies in Jamestown around the clock.

Applicants must be 18 years old and a high school graduate, or have a GED, to be eligible for Rhode Island EMT licensure.
