CHEPACHET, RI — August 17 — Members of the Chepachet Fire Department carried out water rescue training at the boat launch and on Sand Dam on August 17.The training involved practicing operations near the shoreline and in the water, helping firefighters improve their ability to handle water-related emergencies.

The department stated that this was a planned training exercise and confirmed that there were no active emergencies on the water or in nearby areas during the event.

The exercise provided firefighters with the chance to use equipment and follow procedures in an environment similar to where they might respond to a real incident.

Rhode Island has many public freshwater access points, including several in the Burrillville area, which makes it essential for local emergency services to be prepared for water-related calls.

Throughout 2026, Rhode Island agencies continued to provide specialized water rescue training for firefighters and other first responders, covering both boat and shore-based operations.

The training was organized by the Chepachet Fire Department, based at 1170 Putnam Pike in Chepachet. The department is a volunteer organization that serves the local community.
