HARRISVILLE, RI — August 18 — The Harrisville Fire Department carried out a nighttime water-rescue training exercise at Spring Lake Beach on August 18.During the operation, crews practiced techniques they might use during real water emergencies.

The training included the Cumberland Water Rescue & Recovery Team and focused on shore-based search methods and getting familiar with the area.

A mannequin was used as a simulated victim during the exercise.Officials clarified that this was a planned training session and not a response to an actual emergency.

Training in local waterways let personnel practice search procedures under low-light conditions.

For water-rescue teams, regular practice helps enhance communication, movement, equipment handling, and knowledge of possible search areas.

Spring Lake is located in Burrillville and offers public access to its shoreline.

Town records also note that Spring Lake Beach is a local recreational spot. The exercise gave responders a chance to keep their skills sharp before they might be needed during a real water emergency.
