CARLTON, NY — August 11 — Carlton Fire Company conducted an auto extrication training session on August 11, involving members from Barre Volunteer Fire Company and Albion Fire Department.The training exercise centered on vehicle stabilization, tool operation, access techniques, and coordinated rescue procedures.

Firefighters practiced techniques for safely accessing and removing occupants from damaged vehicles, with the simulation taking place around a vehicle that was placed on its side.

The exercise also allowed firefighters from different departments to collaborate, helping them get acquainted with each other’s equipment and operational approaches.

The training covered essential topics including scene safety, vehicle structure, stabilization methods, accessing victims, and disentanglement techniques.

These skills are included in New York’s Basic Passenger Vehicle Rescue program, which is managed by the Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

In New York, extricating accident victims is a required part of firefighter training, highlighting the importance of ongoing hands-on practice. The joint training offered local firefighters valuable hands-on experience and helped improve coordination among the participating departments.
