EAST HERKIMER, NY — August 29 — The East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department recognized Lieutenant Kevin Saltis on his birthday with a department birthday message shared with its members and community.

Saltis served as a lieutenant with the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department. Department records also listed him as a sergeant at arms and a member of the department’s Board of Directors. The department’s membership records showed Saltis joined the organization in April 2006.

The East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, based at 193 Main Road, was established in 1931 and provided fire protection and emergency services across 32.2 square miles in the Town of Herkimer. The department also responded to mutual-aid requests from neighboring fire agencies.

For volunteer fire departments, recognizing members and their service remained an important part of maintaining department connections outside emergency responses. The birthday recognition provided an opportunity for the department to acknowledge Saltis and his continued involvement in East Herkimer’s fire service.
