EAST HERKIMER, NY — August 29 — The East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department held a training session on Saturday morning focused on hose operations, allowing firefighters to practice handling and deploying hoses around a fire engine.

The training emphasized hose-line techniques and teamwork among crew members in a controlled environment.

Firefighters maneuvered around the apparatus and practiced managing hose lines as part of the training exercise, which helped reinforce the necessary movements for setting up a water supply and deploying hose lines during an emergency.

Based at 193 Main Road, the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department has been serving the community since 1931.

The department provides fire protection across 32.2 square miles in the Town of Herkimer and also assists neighboring agencies by responding to mutual-aid calls.

Regular hands-on training is essential for keeping the department prepared and effective.

In New York, fire-service training programs include hose handling, pump operations, and water supply as fundamental skills.
