East Killingly, CT - East Killingly Fire Department members took part in a focused dive training evolution on Smith Pond on 30 August, working in coordination with the Woodstock Dive Team and Dayville Fire Company to strengthen regional water rescue capabilities.

The training emphasized safe and efficient underwater operations, with crews practicing controlled deployment of divers, coordinated search techniques, and effective communication between divers, tenders, and shore-based command personnel.

Special attention was given to maintaining clear radio discipline and ensuring smooth coordination between boats and shore units during active dive operations.

Participating teams worked together through multiple simulated search scenarios, refining how dive teams are positioned and deployed in open-water conditions. The exercise also reinforced safety protocols for both divers and surface support crews, ensuring all personel remain accountable and synchronized throughout the operation.

By training jointly, the agencies improved interoperability and strengthned their ability to respond quickly and effectively to water-related emergencies across the region, where coordination and timing are critical to successful outcomes.
