Somers, CT - The Somers Fire Department conducted tanker shuttle operation training at Somersville Mill Pond in collaboration with Shaker Pines Fire Department.

On August 17, 2026, the training focused on establishing and maintaining a reliable water supply in areas without access to hydrant systems, reinforcing a critical component of rural firefighting operations. Crews operated through a full tanker shuttle evolution, utilizing portable dump tanks as a temporary water storage system.

Tankers cycled water from the drafting site, depositing it into the dump tanks, where engine companies then drafted and supplied hose lines for simulated fire attack operations. The drill emphasized efficiency in water movement, scene organization, and coordination between apparatus during sustained operations.

In many parts of Somers, where hydrant coverage is limited or unavailable, tanker-based water supply remains essential to effective fire suppression. Training in these conditions ensures that personnel can quickly establish a continuous flow of water during working incidents.
