Avon, CT - Avon Volunteer Fire Department members recently conducted intensive live fire training at the Farmington training facility, focusing on standpipe operations in multi-story structures and coordinated interior fire attack under realistic conditions.

Crews utilized Engine 11, operating out of the Huckleberry Hill station, to establish a direct connection to the building’s standpipe system. From there, firefighters successfully pumped water vertically to upper floors, simulating high-rise fireground conditions and reinforcing the importance of reliable water delivery in multi-level incidents.

The training, conducted on 22 August in Hartford County, placed emphasis on coordination between engine operations and interior crews working on upper levels of the structure. Firefighters advanced charged lines via high-rise hose packs, made entry into upper floors, and connected to the standpipe system to simulate suppression operations in a controlled live fire environment.

Members worked through realistic fireground conditions, focusing on communication, hose management, and maintaining continuous water supply while operating in a vertically challenging environment.

The evolution reinforced critical skills required for multi-story firefighting, ensuring crews remain proficient in standpipe operations, water supply management, and coordinated interior attack strategies during high-rise or complex building incidents.
