Ansonia, CT - Ansonia Fire Department members recently participated in a two-day combined lecture and hands-on training program focused on elevator emergencies, building proficiency in one of the fire service’s high-risk, low-frequency technical response areas.

The training covered a range of elevator-related incident scenarios, including passenger entrapments, malfunctioning systems, and emergency access procedures. Members worked through both classroom instruction and practical evolutions aimed at reinforcing safe operating practices and decision-making in confined mechanical environments.

Conducted on 11 August in New Haven County, the program emphasized the importance of understanding modern elevator systems, emergency controls, and building-specific safety mechanisms to ensure safe rescue operations without causing additional hazards to trapped occupants or responders.

Firefighters also practiced coordinated response techniques designed to stabilize situations quickly while maintaining communication with building personnel and ensuring occupant reassurance during entrapment incidents.

The training was facilitated by Signal 73 Fire Training LLC, providing structured instruction and scenario-based learning to enhance operational readiness. The evolution reinforced the department’s commitment to preparedness in specialized rescue situations where precision and safety are critical to successful outcomes.
