Danbury, CT - The Danbury Fire Department - CT conducted intensive, multi-shift training focused on Large Area Search (LAS) operations in expansive warehouse environments, where rapid disorientation and complex layouts present significant operational risks.

On August 29, crews from all four shifts participated in hands-on scenarios designed to replicate zero-visibility conditions commonly encountered during heavy smoke incidents. Firefighters operated with obscured and blacked-out masks to simulate real-world interior fireground conditions, forcing reliance on systematic search paterns, comunication discipline, and team coordination.

Under the direction of Training Chief Shawn McGee, members refined advanced search techniques using thermal imaging cameras, search lines, and structured crew accountability procedures. Emphasis was placed on maintaining orientation within large commercial spaces, efficiently locating potential victims, and ensuring safe and rapid egress back to the primary entry point under compromised visibility.

The evolution provided valuable exposure to the challenges of large-scale commercial fire operations, reinforcing the importance of disciplined search methodology and cordinated team movement in high-risk environments.
