The untimely death of Erasmo Troia, a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department and an officer with the New York City Police Department, is being mourned by members of the East Williston Fire Department as well as firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, and community members.

Troia was twenty-five. According to the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department and later local reports, he passed away on August 15, 2026.

Troia's family, friends, and his siblings at the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department and the NYPD received condolences from the East Williston Fire Department.

Troia had been a member of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department for approximately eight years and served as a firefighter and EMT. He was assigned to Company 2 and was also involved with the department's junior firefighter program.

At the same time, Troia was building a career with the NYPD. News reports and tributes describe a young first responder who continued helping people whether he was working in uniform or happened to encounter someone needing assistance while off duty.

Among the acts remembered by colleagues was Troia's response to people in need away from his regular assignments. Beyond the Badge said he assisted an injured motorcyclist while off duty and had previously helped injured officers and a stabbing victim.

At the firehouse, colleagues remembered Troia as an active member who was willing to work and help wherever he was needed. Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department leaders described him as someone strongly committed to the department and the community it protects.
