It was another warm and sunny Saturday afternoon in August as residents, family members and friends gathered at the NJ State Firemen’s Home for our Second Annual Barbecue.

Attendance exceeded expectations, with many family members joining their loved ones for an afternoon of good food, fellowship and time together. Tables and chairs were set beneath tents, umbrellas and shade trees, creating the perfect setting for a summer barbecue.

With the outdoor grill fired up and the assistance of Chef Prince and the staff of the NJ State Firemen’s Home, lunch was soon underway. The menu included cheeseburgers, hot dogs, barbecued chicken and ribs, corn on the cob, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and fresh watermelon for dessert.

The weather cooperated as well, with temperatures around 80 degrees and low humidity. After lunch, some residents returned inside while others remained outdoors to visit and spend time with their families.

For those in the fire and emergency services, gatherings like this are about more than sharing a meal. They provide an opportunity to enjoy the company of our fire service family and recognize those who have dedicated so many years to serving their communities.

It was another successful event sponsored by the Bergen County Firemen’s Home Association, and we thank everyone who helped make the afternoon so enjoyable. We look forward to returning next year.
