Salem, NJ — August 15 — Salem Fire & Rescue conducted a training session in Salem, New Jersey, on August 15, which centered on topics such as salvage operations, overhaul procedures, and the conservation of property and the fire scene.

Firefighters examined methods to minimize additional damage while effectively carrying out fire suppression and overhaul tasks.

The training covered the use of salvage tarps and protective materials, the movement of furniture and other items when feasible, and the management of water usage depending on the specific conditions present.

The session also emphasized the significance of the initial size-up.

Firefighters explored how the location and spread of a fire could influence aspects such as entry strategies, positioning of hose lines, and efforts to safeguard areas not directly affected by the fire.

In accordance with NFPA training standards, both overhaul and property conservation were recognized as essential firefighter skills.
