Atlantic Beach Lifeguards, Rescue Members Honored After Ocean Rescue

Atlantic Beach, N.Y. — August 10 — On Monday nite, village authorities honored Atlantic Beach lifeguards and members of Atlantic Beach Rescue for their efforts during a major ocean rescue at The Plaza the day before.


According to Atlantic Beach Rescue, a male with severe injuries was pulled from the ocean close to The Plaza on Sunday, August 9. The patient needed to be transported for additional care by a medical helicopter.


Long Island's marine emergency crews had a busy weekend when the rescue occurred. Atlantic Beach Rescue responded to several water emergencies on Sunday, including one involving a half submerged boat close to the Atlantic Beach Bridge, according to News 12. In the last instance, the operator was successfully transported to a neighboring dock by two rescue swimsuits, where he received a medical clearance.


Mayor George Frohlinger and the Board of Trustees recognized the lifeguards and responding members of Atlantic Beach Rescue who participated in the beach rescue during Monday night's village meeting.
