Bronx, N.Y. — August 15 — A $3.1 million cheque for window and roof upgrades at Engine 66/Ladder 61 was handed by New York City Council Member Kevin C. Riley at a summer block party at an FDNY firehouse in the Bronx, marking a significant investment in the building.
On behalf of the department, FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore accepted the check. According to the FDNY, the money will help replace the firehouse that services the Bronx neighborhood.
Engine 66 and Ladder 61 are housed in the Co-op City firehouse at 21 Asch Loop West. The two businesses are listed as serving the region in FDNY-related documentation and city records.
Riley represents New York City Council District 12, which includes Co-op City and several surrounding Northeast Bronx neighborhoods. His council profile says he has secured more than $130 million in discretionary and capital investments for the district since taking office in 2021.
The funding presentation was part of Saturday's community block party, which also marked the end of FDNY's summer block party series at the firehouse. FDNY said the event included community education and thanked residents who attended throughout the summer.
The project is intended to improve the firehouse facility while its members continue providing emergency response coverage in the surrounding community.
