Bronx, N.Y. — August 15 — The New York City Fire Department wrapped up its summer block party series Saturday with a community event outside Engine 66/Ladder 61 in the Bronx.
The event brought firefighters and community members together for a day focused on fun, education and fire safety. The department thanked residents and visitors who stopped by during the summer series.
The block party provided an opportunity for members of the community to meet local firefighters, learn more about fire safety and take part in activities outside the firehouse.
FDNY described the final event as putting the “boogie” in the Boogie Down Bronx, using the city's well-known nickname in its social-media post about the event.
As part of the department's community outreach initiatives, the summer series offered locals a chance to engage with firemen outside of emergency situations.
There were no reports of emergency response or mutual-aid fire department activity related to the incident. Both Engine 66 and Ladder 61 are located in the Bronx and provide services to the neighborhood.
FDNY expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed make the block party series a community event by participating over the summer.
