This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

East Haddam, CT — August 11 — Under Captain Nathan Botting, the East Haddam Fire Department had their first monthly exercise for August. A single-vehicle rollover with several trapped patients was reproduced in the experiment. Participating were Engine 4-15, Ladder 1-15, and Utility 1-15. As the incident commander, Lieutenant Jim Spirito instructed workers to steady the car before beginning the extrication process.

EMS operations were coordinated by Captain Melanie Kolek. Simulated demands for Life Star, more ambulances, and paramedics were all part of the scenario. The exercise emphasized teamwork, communication, patient extrication, and vehicle stabilization. In order to be ready for complicated car wrecks involving fire and emergency medical services, members practiced coordinated actions.
