John F. “Jack” Collins, 85, of Townsend, passed away on April 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to his community and the fire service.

A proud United States Air Force veteran, Jack served with the Strategic Air Command as a B-52 ground crew member and Assistant Crew Chief, flying numerous missions during his military service. His commitment to service continued at home, where he earned an associate degree in Fire Science from Mount Wachusett Community College and devoted nearly 25 years to the fire service. He served three years with the Ashby Fire Department and 19 years with the Townsend Fire Department, where he ultimately retired in 1987 as Assistant Chief.

In 2003, Jack returned to the Townsend Fire Department as Chief of Department, serving in that role through 2005. To the members of the fire service, Jack will be remembered not simply by the titles he held, but by the years he gave, the knowledge he shared, and the example he set through a lifetime of service.

A veteran, firefighter, officer, husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Jack lived a life defined by courage, commitment, and a willingness to answer the call.
