Olean, N.Y. — July 16 — Recruits for the City of Olean Fire Department finished a week-long training program that covered pump operations, hazardous gas fires, and flammable liquid fires. Pump operator responsibilities, such as controlling water flow and assisting with fireground operations, were taught to recruits. In order to provide candidates with expertise with various water supply requirements, training also addressed both urban and rural water supply operations.

The department reinforced water delivery, fireground coordination, and safe equipment operation thru practical training. The training equipped recruits to handle situations involving combustible materials and structural fires. The City of Olean Fire Department offered emergency services and fire protection for the city and the neighboring response regions.
