Multi-Agency Response Brings Distressed Kayaker Safely Ashore

A multi-agency marine response was launched in Stony Brook, New York, on July 4, 2026, after authorities received a report of a distressed kayaker approximately a quarter-mile west of Shore Road.

The Stony Brook Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 1:48 p.m., with personnel working alongside the Town of Smithtown Bay Constable and Suffolk County Police Department marine personnel to locate the kayaker.

Responders located the fatigued kayaker, who was reportedly wearing a personal flotation device, and safely brought the individual aboard a marine unit. The kayaker was transported to the Town of Brookhaven floating dock, where Stony Brook FD EMS personnel conducted a medical evaluation.
