Wantagh, N.Y. — 4th July — In honor of the United States' 250th anniversary, the Department Wantagh Fire Department Marine Unit in Wantagh, New York, observed Independence Day. Throughout the holiday, the unit remained ready for maritime emergencies while joining emergency service organizations throughout Long Island in commemorating the nation's historic milestone.

Members urged boats and waterfront guests to observe local fireworks laws, wear life jackets, and follow navigational guidelines in order to celebrate responsibly. Marine firemen were still on call to handle watercraft disasters, water rescues, and other crises. The celebration honored both America's 250th birthday and the unit's ongoing dedication to safeguarding the neighboring towns and rivers.
