Hicksville, N.Y. — July 17 — Firefighter Teofilo G. Talavera was acknowledged by the Hicksville Fire Department, located at 20 E. Marie St., for successfully earning the Firefighter 1 (FF1) certification from the Nassau County Fire Service Academy. Classroom and practical training in fire suppression, search and rescue, ladders, ventilation, hazardous materials awareness, and firefighter safety were all part of the 111-hour curriculum.

For volunteer firefighters, FF1 is a crucial milestone since it satisfies New York State training requirements and equips them with the abilities necessary for emergency response.
