On July 21, Anthony Shoppmann and Michael Scelzi Jr., two probationary firefighters, were sworn in as members of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department.
Both firemen progressed through the department's Junior Firefighter Program, where Shoppmann was a Junior Lieutenant and Scelzi was a Junior Captain. Since both come from families that are committed to the fire service, their appointments likewise carry on long-standing family traditions of service.
