Providence Fire Department Welcomes 17 New Firefighters

Providence, R.I. — June 22 — The Providence Fire Department welcomed 17 new firefighters following the graduation of its 58th Entry-Level Training Academy at Bishop McVinney Auditorium. Mayor Brett Smiley and Fire Chief Derek Silva joined department members, graduates and their families for the ceremony. The class began training in January with 20 recruits and completed approximately six months of instruction.

Training included emergency medical services, structural firefighting, hazardous materials response, physical conditioning and classroom instruction. The 17 graduates now begin their careers serving the Providence community through fire suppression, emergency medical services and other emergency response operations.
