Harrisville, R.I. — July 20 — The Harrisville Fire Department continued to improve operational readiness while welcoming a number of new members. In addition to examining the water supply and equipment operations for wildland occurrences, drivers and operators checked the pumps on the department's brush trucks. Ground ladder principles were also performed by firefighters of all skill levels, with an emphasis on safe deployment, appropriate positioning, and coordinated teamwork.

The department, which has its headquarters at 201 Callahan School St., offers mutual aid, emergency response, fire suppression, and rescue services all across the area. In order to keep teams ready for a variety of emergency situations, the July 20 training strengthened equipment knowledge, communication, and practical abilities.
